The new church in Gällivare is one of the most beautiful buildings. When mining increased and the population with it, the old church became too small and it was necessary to build a bigger one. In 1879, construction began and in February 1882 the church was opened and is still used today. This church is one of twelve central churches in Sweden with Emil Langlet as the architect. This is the only one of the twelve built with timber.
