About us

Gällivare Turistcenter
We help you with recommendations for places to stay, to eat, to see and activities. Here you can buy train and regional bus tickets and of course, we also sell fishing permits within the region. In our gift shop, you find products made by our local craftsmen and much more. We also offer luggage storage and bike rental (summertime) available during our opening hours. If you want to get in contact with us you can either call, e-mail, or visit us at our Tourist Center located inside the railway station in Gällivare.

When you visit us at the Tourist Center we recommend you to have a look upstairs, where there is an exhibition about the World Heritage Site Laponia. The exhibition tells the history of Laponia and the people who have lived here for thousands of years. Gällivare is home to two mines: Aitik, an open-pit mine, and Swedens largest copper mine, and LKAB, the world’s second-largest underground iron ore mine.

If you have any questions or would like to give us some feedback don’t hesitate to contact or visit us. You’ll find our contact information to the right (or below for mobile phone users).

Staff working at Gällivare Tourist Center

Ávki AB
From 2018, Ávki is responsible for the operation of Gällivare Turistcenter. Ávki is an engaged economic agency and a development company founded in 2011 by Unna Tjerusj and Gällivare skogssameby. We run projects and offer services in different areas for our customers located in Gällivare’s vicinity, faraway areas in the region, and Sápmi. Our customers are local businesses, reindeer herding companies, and Sami communities, public operations, road associations, foundations, small forest owners, and private individuals.

Equality & diversity

By 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the historic resolution Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. As part of Ávki’s contribution to sustainable development, we have chosen to focus primarily on equality, decent working conditions, and economic growth, sustainable consumption and production and ecosystems, and biodiversity.

Sustainable development

At Ávki, gender equality is more than a concept, for us, it is the prerequisite for innovation, job satisfaction, and competitiveness. People are our most important resource and we have a clear focus on youth and gender equality and diversity in everything we do.

Starting autumn 2018, Ávki is also a local party in the region’s destination project “BCD”. This is based on the level of knowledge and the needs of individuals or organizations and builds their capacity based on it. In this project focusing on companies in the tourism industry, it becomes a natural step for the new project BCD to handle where Destination Capacity Building in Swedish Lapland (DCB) has ended. With an even clearer focus on business needs and the development of their skills to strengthen the capacity of Business Development and Market Development in Gällivare.
